Hello, this is Kasmira. Last week, the World Trade Organization sharply revised it forecast for global trade this year as US tariffs and heightened political uncertainty take their toll. How countries respond to Trump's tactics could have far-reaching implications for the future of the system created to make sure countries have fair access to trade and play by the rules.
Meanwhile this week in Geneva, Ukraine will be quizzed over its treatment of minority communities amid the ongoing war. |

Keep calm: can the WTO survive Trump?
Countries hit by US president Donald Trump's impending “reciprocal” tariffs face a dilemma, according to economists, between entering his game and striking bilateral deals or standing firm and saving the multilateral trading system.

🇺🇦MINORITIES IN UKRAINE UNDER SPOTLIGHT.
On Wednesday and Thursday, the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is set to examine Ukraine. The expert panel is likely to shed light particularly on how the Ukrainian government is addressing its often complex relationship with minority communities amid the ongoing war.

Crimean Tatars
have reportedly faced a wave of crackdowns by Russian authorities in occupied Crimea, whose 2014 annexation is rejected by the Crimean Tatar Mejlis – the ethnic group’s recognised representative body. Now, the prospect of a peace deal that could hand over their ancestral land to Moscow raises urgent concerns about their cultural and political rights.

The Roma,
a historically marginalised community, have also experienced worsening discrimination. Many struggle to access identification documents, education, healthcare, and humanitarian aid.
One of the main concerns raised by Roma advocacy groups is the risk of repeating the post-war experiences of Bosnia and Kosovo, where tens of thousands of Roma were expelled or displaced. These groups have called on Kyiv to ensure their inclusion in reconstruction and recovery plans.
