Not far away, the UN Refugee Agency unveiled its new leadership team, including the US national given the second highest role as per tradition. In other news, a UN investigation accuses Israeli forces of shielding settlers in occupied Palestine.

UN appoints US Geneva diplomat as refugee deputy in top brass shakeup. The UN chief has tapped Tressa Rae Finerty as UN deputy high commissioner for refugees, passing over a controversial White House nominee. Finerty, currently the US chargé d’affaires for the UN and other organisations in Geneva, will serve as second in command at the UN refugee agency – a role traditionally held by American nationals.
