Hello, this is Michelle. Today, is a grim day for international aid. The US's 90-day pause to foreign assistance has thrown international organisations into panic mode, with the UN agencies in charge of migration and refugees taking emergency measures and bracing for layoffs – even if exceptions have been made for life-saving programmes.

Meanwhile, Switzerland will also slash contributions to key organisations. Though smaller in scale, this deals another blow to a fading era of international solidarity.
