Good morning, this is Pip. As a new year gets underway, the work of the international community here in Geneva is ramping up once again, from hosting diplomatic talks between US and Russian delegations to grappling with yet another wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Home to people of over 170 different nationalities, Geneva is famed for its internationalism. The city’s vast community of hundreds of global NGOs representatives, country delegations and the United Nations is always looking outward to address worldwide issues, from humanitarian crises to global health threats and climate change. But the city also offers a whole range of ways to support issues closer to home. Here’s a look at eight initiatives helping to keep the city’s spirit of solidarity alive as a new year begins.

📌 10 January | Nuclear Weapons and Democracy.
This online event, organised by the Geneva Centre for Security Policy (GCSP) will discuss the findings of a study conducted by the Nuclear Knowledges academic programme of Sciences Po Paris. The event was due to coincide with the 2022 Tenth Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT), now postponed until August.
