Good morning, this is Pip. Today, we’re covering how humanitarian organisations working to help people in Pakistan recover from this summer’s catastrophic floods are facing a “drought” of funding as the situation in the country continues to deteriorate.
We’re also learning how a portion of Afghanistan’s foreign reserves ended up in Geneva. Plus, the UN refugee agency is warning that refugees from Myanmar are being deported from Malaysia, in violation of their rights. |

💸 Pakistan facing funding ‘drought’ for flood recovery.

🇺🇳 The United Nations officially came into existence 77 years ago this week
when its charter came into effect on 24 October 1945. Marking the anniversary, UN secretary general António Guterres said the organisation was being “tested like never before” but was “made for moments like this”. “As we mark UN Day, let us renew our hope and conviction in what humanity can achieve when we work as one, in global solidarity,” he said.
