Hi, this is Michelle. The G7 summit wrapped up on Wednesday with a host of key developments, from a push to sanction Russian oil to support for the US-Iran preliminary peace deal to Trump staying until the very end and signing all nine statements.

While less visible, the guest leaders from the global south also made their mark, especially as the weakened western bloc is increasingly in need of bolstering north-south ties.

🃏Global south leaders play their cards at G7 summit. The leaders of Brazil, India and Kenya met with the G7 in Evian as the western bloc seeks to counter China’s sprawling economic influence and presents its new narrative on development aid.

In return, Washington's partners unequivocally welcomed the memorandum of understanding announced with Iran.

🇺🇳The latest candidate to lead the UN suggests creating a crisis-prevention hub. Interviewed on Monday by General Assembly member states, Ecuadorian diplomat María Fernanda Espinosa said it would ensure a timely response to humanitarian crises, terrorism, energy shocks, food insecurity and inflation.

A meeting convened at the WHO on Tuesday found that Dutch, Spanish and Swiss medical experts applied slightly different criteria for discharging patients during the recent outbreak on a cruise ship – but none required a negative blood test, as this could remain positive “for months”.
