Hi there, this is Michelle. The UN labour agency has managed to dodge a crisis after nations were able to defuse an emerging clash over LGBTQ rights during budget negotiations. Meanwhile, unions at the conference hit Saudi Arabia with a complaint over alleged labour abuses.

Overseas, the White House has asked Congress to claw back billions in US foreign aid, formalising the end of certain assistance programmes previously announced and taking a jab at some UN dues.

Nations approve UN labour budget, sidestepping LGBTQ rights clash. Nations narrowly approved the International Labour Organisation’s (ILO) programme and budget for the next two years on Wednesday, sidestepping yet another collapse in negotiations at its annual conference in Geneva. The win comes after ideological divisions over LGBTQ rights once again threatened to derail consensus and caused deliberations to drag on for another day.
