World on ‘highway to climate hell’, says UN chief. The world is on a “highway to climate hell”, the United Nations secretary general warned leaders gathered at the Cop27 summit in Egypt on Monday, urging countries to work together to cut emissions. Speaking at the opening of the UN climate summit in Sharm el-Sheikh, António Guterres urged governments to “cooperate or perish” as they sit down for two weeks of talks on how to combat climate change.
